The new Toyota Camry gets a new elegant design language, revamped and minimalist interior with large dual screens, a panoramic sunroof, and a heads-up display as a part of the generational update.
The new Camry is priced at Rs 48 lakh (Ex-sh) Rs 1.83 lakh higher sedan segment, with several features and safety updates. Unlike its global counterpart offered in LE, SE, XLE and XSE trim levels, Toyota Camry for India is launched in one fully-loaded trim.
The ninth-generation Toyota Camry is built on the TNGA-K platform. Its face gets Toyota’s “hammerhead” styling, which features a sharp nose, slim LED headlamps and daytime running lights. A narrow grille almost connects the headlights, the ‘T’ logo has moved up compared to its predecessor, and the bumpers sport an almost Lexus-like anvil shape. A bold new character line along the side, redesigned 18-inch alloys and new C-shaped LED tail-lamps round off the design highlights.
The fresh look of the cabin depicts minimalism with the instrument panel (co-driver side air-con vent) having a unique design element that is reminiscent of a guitar fretboard.
Then, there is a three-spoke steering wheel, while the centre console gets a traditional-looking gear stick instead of a toggle bar seen on the new cars. Plus, there is a small touchscreen integrated into the rear-seat armrest, allowing the passenger to control music and other functions.
Toyota has equipped the new Camry with a new 12.3-inch digital driver’s display and a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Unlike new-age cars which rely heavily on touchscreens for most of the features, the sedan gets physical controls to operate all the essential features, such as the climate control.
It receives a 9-speaker JBL audio system. Features also extend to ventilated/heated seating, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay with connected car technology. It will also get a 360-degree camera and 5 USB ports at the front and rear.
A wireless phone charging pad and a larger panoramic sunroof are other notable elements of new Camry. New Toyota Camry Rear Seat Entertainment With Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, Camry gets safer than before.
This includes multiple airbags and ADAS with features among which are dynamic radar cruise control with curve speed reduction, rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and lane departure alert with steering assist, and a pre-collision braking system, among others.
Powering the ninth-generation Camry is a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that comes paired with the brand’s fifth generation hybrid system, which now consists of a new battery, two new electric motors, and several other changes.
The combined output of the hybrid system is 230 PS in the front-wheel-drive (FWD) version. In the International markets, there is an all-wheel drive version that produces 232 PS, which is an increase of 7 PS over the FWD setup.
