Kia SYROS Launched in Globally

Kia has globally debuted the all-new Syros compact SUV in India today. The Syros is Kia’s second offering in the sub-4-metre space after the Sonet and addresses a key drawback of the latter – rear-seat space. It gets an all-new design language

Design-wise, we have a lot to uncover. For starters, the fascia looks like it is out of this world. The high-set bonnet has muscular creases and looks imposing. There are vertically arranged LED headlight setups engulfed by massive LED DRLs. The lighting setup flank an upper grill and a lower grill.

There’s a radar module for ADAS in lower grill. Kia Syros At the sides, we can see a strong presence. Notable elements here include chunky B Pillar area, a practical rear quarter glass, flush door handles, flared wheel arches at the front, wide haunches at the rear, a fuel-filler cap on rear left quarter panel, tough-looking body cladding, roof rails, and a wrap-around type glass area at the rear.

Kia Syros: Interior

Inside, the Syros features a premium and modern-day interior, which also takes inspiration from its elder siblings. There is a single panel unit comprising a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 5-inch climate control panel, and a 12.3-inch all-digital driver’s display. These displays together measure 30-inches, including the bezels. The cabin also gets a D-cut two-spoke steering wheel, multiple dual-tone themes, and multicolour ambient lighting.

Unlike the conventional placement of the electronic parking brake on the centre console, Kia has given it on the dashboard. Whereas, the centre console houses a gear selector and a few switches, including engine start/stop button.

Dimensionally, the Syros measures 3,995mm in length, 1,800mm in width, 1,665mm in height and a 2,550mm wheelbase. This makes it 10mm wider and 55mm taller than the Sonet, and the wheelbase has also gone up by 50mm.

The boot capacity is rated at 465 litres, up from the Sonet’s 385 litres. The tallboy design and longer wheelbase frees up more interior space, says Kia.

Kia is offering eight colour options with the Syros: Frost Blue, Pewter Olive, Aurora Black Pearl, Intense Red, Gravity Grey, Imperial Blue, Sparkling Silver and Glacier White Pearl.

The Syros gets two engine options – a 120hp, 172Nm 1.0-litre turbo-petrol with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT, and a 116hp, 250Nm 1.5-litre diesel paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. It should be noted that higher-spec automatic veriants will get paddle shifters. The Syros is one of the few sub-4-metre SUVs to still offer a diesel engine option.

The prices of the new Kia Syros are expected in January 2025
